Name: Riku
Series and 'Verse: Kingdom Hearts - AU. More info in the History.
Age: 16
Appearance: Average height for a guy his age, probably average weight. Possibly heavier due to having a fair amount of muscles. Has silvery-white (slightly bluish) hair that just barely brushes his shoulders in the back and sides and mostly hangs in his eyes--pale aqua--in the front. Very pale for someone who has lived in a semi-tropical area for the majority of his life. He has a visible scar across the front of his neck--it appears to be a cut that never healed properly. Riku pretty much looks like this, but with slightly shorter hair.
Personality: Generally, Riku acts like a calm and cool young man. He’s also very quiet, not entirely by choice, and at first may come off as shy or rude. The rare times he does talk, he prefers to think about what he wants to say before he actually says it. This is either to avoid misunderstandings or to hide what he doesn’t want to say; if Riku is uncomfortable talking about a certain subject or answering a certain question, he will either not say anything, give non-answers, or try to deflect the question with another topic.
Riku is also very competitive. He finds it hard to leave a challenge alone as long as he thinks he can overcome it, but also tends to beat himself up if he fails or feels like he’s failed at something. Since his injury, he’s been battling with dependency issues, unsure what he can actually accomplish on his own and what he needs other people to do. He’s very afraid of being seen as weak and useless and continues to dwell on what might’ve happened if he hadn’t lost the fight to Roxas.
However, he still keeps the ‘cool’ facade, and it takes quite a bit of effort (or just the right words) to crack it. He still has a sense of humor, which he has come to rely on more than he would in canon, using it to make him feel better or make others feel better about him. It shows up most often in his writing or actions, mostly with drawings that accompany whatever he’s written down.
Powers: Can draw on and manipulate darkness to attack or defend. He prefers to attack with orbs made of darkness, and can create a dark shield that lasts about a minute if he concentrates. He can draw on light to a small extent, but can’t do much with it. The only magic he knows is Cura.
Belongings: His organization coat (which he still has), a pen, and about 450 munny (now has about 300 munny after buying some stuff)
History: Kingdom Hearts canon up to about halfway through 358/2 Days, where it becomes AU.
Basically, what happens is that a few days after Riku and Roxas encounter one another in Days (Mission 74: Search for the Imposter, day 297), they run into one another again in Twilight Town, and get into a fight after Roxas demands to know what Riku is doing and what he knows about the Organization. Riku initially has the upper hand, until he gets momentarily distracted, leaving himself open to attack.
Roxas knocks Riku to the ground, pinning Riku’s body with his own and pinning Riku’s neck with his keyblade--Omega Weapon. Roxas again demands answers and as an incentive to answer, presses the sharp edge of the keyblade against Riku’s skin. Riku keeps refusing to answer, and Roxas gets increasingly frustrated, pressing the keyblade harder against the other’s throat, not only cutting the skin but essentially choking Riku. Eventually, Riku passes out and Roxas flees, leaving Riku there.
Riku heals himself immediately after he revives, to stop the bleeding, but he develops a sore throat and scratchy voice that persists for a couple weeks after the fight. He doesn’t try to work around the hoarseness, attempting to talk as normally as possible, which leads to a complete loss of voice about a month later. During that time, he attempts to heal the sore throat with both magic and other remedies, and finally succeeds in both getting rid of that and restoring a tiny fraction of his voice--enough for a whisper volume.
During the time period this happens, Riku is staying with DiZ and Namine in the Mansion in Twilight Town. After his injury, Namine offers use of one of her sketchbooks as a way to communicate, and uses that method exclusively at first, along with various made-up gestures that only he and Namine know the meanings of. He then locates a book on sign language in DiZ’s library and goes about memorizing signs from it, memorizing the alphabet and a handful of other signs he thinks look useful.
